José Eduardo dos Santos
Angolan politician born in 1941, in Luanda. Member of the Movimento Popular para a Libertação de Angola (MPLA) since the age of 20, he became leader of the party and was appointed President of Republic and commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces in 1979, replacing Agostinho Neto. He was elected president in the 1992 elections, the first free elections that took place in Angola.
